Chapter 15

CHRYS

I was excited to taste the cakes. I loved sweets, and at least it would pass the time while waiting for the others to come and stop the wedding. Nothing could corrupt something as innocent as cake tasting.

My mouth watered at the thought. I wondered what flavors they had. Chocolate? Vanilla? Red velvet? Champagne? There were so many choices and I couldn't wait to try every one. Then I would make notes for what kind of cake I would serve at Huntley and I's wedding.

I blushed at the thought. I couldn't wait to run away with Huntley and marry him. And be with him.

And see if my father beats him into a pulp or not.

I think at this point that father didn't care if I married Huntley and would prefer it. It was him or Zeus, and anything was better than Zeus.

Well, almost anything. I think if I had to choose between Poseidon and Zeus, I would pick Zeus. Poseidon seemed to be more of a pervert.

Then there was Apollo…

I shook my head, trying to forget all of them and just focus on Huntley. He was what kept me going, the person I cared about the most. He was there for me, making sure I was safe. I should have listened to him. He warned me about going to the mortal realm, and I didn't listen. I just followed my rage and did as A.J. said. And then was tricked. And then ended up in this engagement.

We reached the cake shop and there in front of the entrance stood Zeus. I froze in my tracks. I didn't expect him to be here and realized I hadn't seen him since that day over a year ago. My heart raced, and I felt horror sweep over me.

What if Huntley and the others didn't succeed? What if I wasn’t saved from this eternal torture?

He walked up to me and grabbed my hand and kissed it. "You look fetching today, Chrys."

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. I didn't expect to see him like this, I didn't know what to do.

"She had an interminable night and is a bit out of it," Persephone said.

He turned to her and smiled. "I hope there was no trouble."

My heart was beating even louder. Oh shit, was he going to find out about how I tried to escape? If he did, was he going to kill me?

"No, just Apollo and his usual shit. Sometimes he can be loud."

I let out the breath I was holding. That was a close one.

"Ah yes. Just pay him no mind. He is just a lonely wolf with too much time on his hands."

I nodded and tried to fake a smile but couldn't.

After me not responding for a moment, Zeus turned to the cake shop. "Shall we begin?"

"Yeah," I mustered up the courage to speak. "Let's."

We took a seat inside the café. It was filled with photos of cake designs with the different gods this shop had served over the years.
